Roland Saiens – pastor-missionary (Canada)

April 25, 2024

God can place a person wherever He wants. God gives some a minibus, and they feel His calling to help people get to the border. Others use their vehicles to deliver food and essentials. They are heroes.

There are those who are called to be soldiers in the army, and they fight on the fronts for democracy and independence for Ukraine. They are heroes.

There are women who are called to go with their children to a safe place while their husbands and fathers in Ukraine can help others and not worry about their families. Their job is to take care of the children at a safe distance from the war and pray for their husbands and other people. They are heroes.

There are those who are called to simply survive, to worry about having enough food and shelter, to help their neighbors. They were not drafted into the army, they do not have cars, they cannot go to another country, and therefore they care about their safety and the safety of their loved ones. They are heroes.

Many people living in different countries, whose hearts and prayers are with Ukraine right now, feel guilty for not being with their people today. But they know that going to Ukraine at this time may not be the best decision. God has placed them in the countries where they are now because He wants “those planted in the house of the Lord to flourish in the courts of our God.” They help financially, prayerfully, with information, show their concern and tell everyone about the war and all the difficulties in Ukraine… They are heroes.

God has placed each person in a specific place and given everyone the courage that is so needed today. Some make quick decisions and immediately take action. But later burnout, depression and exhaustion set in. Others cannot make a decision at all, fall into depression and do not know what to do… But later they can help those who are burned out and need rest. We are all different, and God can use each of us differently. They are heroes.

We can torment people because they are not doing what we think they should be doing, or we torment others because we are afraid to torture ourselves… We look at them and judge them when we should only be judging ourselves. Give people the freedom to be who God wants them to be. Understand that during this terrible war we pray and God works in each of our lives differently. Do not be troubled by the actions of others, but always look at what God has called you to do.

Take care of the children, pray, find the necessary connections for the victims, a shelter where they can stay, do laundry, cook a meal, hold someone’s hand, share a word of hope from God… These are heroic moments when everything around is crumbling and people are afraid.

God is with you. He is the sorrowful Christ who died for your sin and the sin of humanity. He took all evil upon Himself and died on the cross. He is with us in our sorrows, pains and fears. He is with us in our depression. He is the Christ who suffers. But He also Christ the Triumphant, who has won the victory over sin, death, and Satan. Nothing can defeat us, for He is the victor and He has called us to His team of victors. And so we look to the Lord as the One who gives life. We look to the Lord as the One who gives eternal life. And this life no one can take away from us.

The Alpha and Omega organization has been a wonderful gift from God to many hundreds of students who have come to faith in Christ and are serving in different countries around the world. In fact, the greatest hero of all is Jesus. He is your hero and my hero. And He makes everyone who believes in Him and trusts in Him a hero. I thank the Lord for the Alpha and Omega organization. My heart aches for Ukraine right now and I often think with tears of joy about going there to help people.

I know that God has placed me where I can care, pray, and speak to others about the war in Ukraine. You are all doing your best to allow Christ, who loved you with an eternal love, to love and care for others. All of you who help with urgent needs, who drive food, who prepare and deliver food, who pray, who donate money, who live in shelters and try to survive under the bombing, constantly turn to God for help. You are my heroes... Praise God!
